Frequently Asked Questions
INFRARED LIGHT THERAPY
How often should I receive sessions to see results?
Acute injuries and inflammation from muscle strains and sprains, cuts, bruises, burns, etc. typically show very rapid improvement and can resolve in 2-4 treatments.
Long-term, chronic conditions can take as many as 12 sessions to get significant benefits then 1-2 sessions every 3-6 weeks may be necessary to maintain benefits.
We recommend every other day in the first 2-3 weeks. At that point intervals typically reduce to 2x per week, depending on your conditions and wellness goals. Buying a monthly membership is the cheapest way to receive the best benefits.

Are there contraindications for Infrared Light Therapy?
Infrared Light Therapy is generally considered a beneficial therapy for all conditions and walks of life. However, there are a few contraindications to ensure the safety of our clients. Do not use Infrared Light Therapy if you are experiencing the following:
- Cancer
- Pregnancy
- Light Sensitivity
- Epilepsy
- Recent Skin Lesions or Burns
- Under the age of 12
While infrared light may be beneficial in these cases, please consult your doctor before treatment.
What is the difference between Red Light and Infrared Light Therapy?
Both Red Light and Infrared Light penetrate the skin to increase mitochondrial function, resulting in more cellular energy to allow your cells to perform better. They differ in the cells they are able to reach, therefore targeting different functions.
Red Light penetrates the top layers of the skin—the dermis and epidermis. Red Light targets cells to help:
- Boost Collagen and Elastin Production
- Reduce Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Promote Hair Growth
- Encourage Fat Cell Shrinkage
Infrared Light has a longer wavelength than Red Light, allowing it to penetrate the subcutaneous tissue. This is the closest layer of skin to the muscle. Infrared Light targets deeper cells to help:
- Reduce Inflammation
- Relieve Muscle & Joint Pain
- Increase Circulation
- Boost Energy Levels
- Improve Metabolism
- Repair Tissue
NovoTHOR uses a combination of Red and Infrared Light to achieve healing from the inside out!

Are there contraindications for Compression Therapy?
Contraindications for Compression Therapy include:
- Congestive Heart Failure
- Recent Fractures or Breaks
- Pulmonary Edema
- Deep Vein Thrombosis
- Open Wounds, Lesions, or Infections
- Under the Age of 16
If you are experiencing any of these, please consult a doctor before scheduling a session.
Compression Therapy is beneficial during pregnancy to reduce swelling and soreness in the legs. We recommend avoiding the hip sleeves to avoid pressure around the low back and pelvic floor.
INFRARED SAUNA
How long is a sauna session, and how often can I do them?
Sauna sessions last 30-45 minutes, depending on the program you choose. You can enjoy the sauna as many as 3-4 times a week!
How do I prepare for my sauna session?
We recommend minimal clothing to increase your infrared light absorption-underwear and sports bra, swimsuit, or a provided robe or wrap.
Are there contraindications for the Sauna?
Contraindications include:
- Pregnancy
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Heart Disease
- Impaired Ability to Sweat
- Fever or Sensitivity to Heat
- Under the Age of 12
What is the difference between a dry sauna and a wet sauna?
Dry saunas use heated rocks or electric heaters, while wet saunas use steam generators. Our Sunlighten Sauna is a dry sauna with infrared panels to heat the body from the inside out.
While the wet sauna will have you soaked in sweat from high heat and humidity, the infrared sauna focuses on healing at a cellular level which in turn heats the core temperature. Once your core is warmed up, the detox process begins using sweat to carry toxins out of the body.
Program temperatures vary from 130°–140° F. The more frequent your sessions are, the more you will sweat as your body becomes accustomed to detoxing. To maximize your benefits, try using the sauna after physical activity or 10 minutes on our vibration plate to open your detox pathways before the sauna.
Can I take my cell phone into the sauna?
Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMF)
How often can I use PEMF?
How does PEMF work?
The CM2 Pulse Web we use is designed with coils that create a healing frequency in the tissue and fluid of the body. These frequencies target individual cells of the body, “energetically recharging” them. With the proper charge, cells are able to better perform the necessary functions to maintain optimal health for a full body effect. Functions include:
- Cellular Regeneration
- ATP Production
- Bone and Tissue Repair
- Delivery of Oxygen & Nutrients
- Removal of Cellular Waste
Are there contraindications for PEMF Therapy?
Do not use PEMF if you are experiencing the following:
- Pregnancy
- Active Bleeding
- Electronic Devices in the Body—pacemakers, insulin pumps, cochlear implants, etc.
- Organ Transplant
- Tuberculosis
- Herniated Discs
While not a contraindication, please inform the staff if you have metal plates or screws in your body so we can prevent discomfort during your session.
What is the difference between PEMF Therapy and TENS Unit?
PEMF therapy generates electromagnetic pulses through coils surrounding the body. These pulses target cells and stimulate cellular activity, such as cellular metabolism, protein synthesis, and release of signal molecules. By working at a cellular level, PEMF supports the body’s natural healing process, repairing tissue and reducing pain and inflammation.
TENS Units deliver electrical pulses to the tissue through the skin. These pulses stimulate sensory nerves to block pain signals traveling to the brain. It also triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. By targeting the nervous system, TENS Units effectively provide pain relief to the body.
While both technologies offer a natural and effective method of pain relief, we encourage the use of PEMF Therapy for healing the source of pain, leaving you with long-term relief.

- Blood Clots
- Pregnancy
- Dizziness or Inner Ear Problems

Should I wear shoes on the Vibration Plate?
Vitamin D Bed
How does the Vitamin D Bed work?
The sun is our primary source of Vitamin D, making the Vitamin D bed a great option for those unable to get enough sun exposure throughout the week.
What makes this different from a regular tanning bed?
Sunlight is made of two different kinds of UV rays: UVA and UVB. UVA rays are what you find in the traditional tanning bed. Their primary purpose is producing melanin to protect the skin. UVA rays will help you achieve a glowing tan, but often results in too much UV exposure.
Our bed is fitted with UVB lights, transforming it into a Vitamin D bed. UVB light is the magic key to producing the body’s main source of Vitamin D! A six minute session exposes your body to a daily dose of UVB rays on the days you don’t get enough sunshine.
While excessive use can be harmful, we limit our daily sessions to 6 minutes to prevent any adverse effects. We ask that you please respect this time limit as we work to keep our customers’ health a priority.
